Two Lunes

The Sandman

Over young and old
the Sandman
sprinkles nightly dust

I’m Not Tired

weary children wail
“But I’m not tired” as
they fall asleep

I have been writing my tercets but forgetting to post them. This weekend I did not forget.

Here are two different forms presented together with a unity of theme, so that they could easily be read together as a single poem. “The Sandman” is a Kelly’s Lune, and “I’m Not Tired” is a Collom’s Lune.

Scansion:
Kelly’s Lune
known as the American Haiku, invented by Robert Kelly
syllabic: 5-3-5 syllables per line
any topic, meter, rhyme, metaphor allowed

Collom’s Lune
invented by Jack Collom
lexical: 3-5-3 words per line
any topic, meter, rhyme, metaphor allowed
