Everlasting Love

You are loved with an everlasting love… and underneath are the everlasting arms.

—Elisabeth Elliot

I used to listen to Elisabeth Elliot on the radio, and every one of her broadcasts would begin with the quote, taken from two verses of Scripture: “You are loved with an everlasting love—that’s what the Bible says—and underneath are the everlasting arms.”  Do you think she wanted us to grasp this truth? I did nothing to merit God’s love in the first place, and there is absolutely nothing I can do to make Him stop loving me. He protects me, teaches me, and guides me with His everlasting arms. He never gets tired, and He never loses patience with me. That’s a good thing! 🙂

Elisabeth Elliot’s writing has greatly influenced my life, even as a grown married woman. I truly wish someone had introduced me to her works when I was a teenager, but I am learning that it is never too late to incorporate the principles she teaches: namely, that passion is not sinful and purity is not prudish. Nor are they mutually exclusive. You can have both.
