I Get His Pain

Our son is still reeling
From a broken relationship.
He truly loved her, and now she’s gone.
“I get his pain,” you said.
Really?
There was someone you loved and lost?
“Yes.”
Who?
“It doesn’t matter.”

Did I really expect him to tell me?
I wonder, was it someone I know?
Perhaps a girl from his hometown?
Or
was
it
me?
