Crystalline
Created by Denis Garrison
an American haiku couplet whose primary focus appears to be to match the Japanese clarity of image with the English harmony of sound.
It is written in present tense with complete sentence(s) and correct English syntax, caps, and punctuation.
The poet’s subjectivity, thoughts and feelings are permitted, unlike in the traditional haiku, which is written from an objective point of view.
Composed with a “cut” (kireji) or pivot, most often between L1 and L2.
Rhyme, onomatopoeia, metaphor, allusion, etc. used at poet’s discretion.
Regular Crystalline = 17 syllables, divided among 2 lines: 8-9 or 9-8
Irregular Crystalline = 17 syllables, divided among 2 lines other than 8-9 or 9-8
