Unruly Affections

Bringing anything at all into order—a messy room, a wild horse, a recalcitrant child—involves some expenditure. Time and energy at least are required. Perhaps even labor, toil, sacrifice, and pain.


Shore, boats (3)Some people come into our lives and we hardly know they are there. They drop in and right back out again like callers to a crowded open house. But then there are those who come inside and take up residence, and almost imperceptibly they change who we will become… and we them.

The ocean’s waves come quietly ashore,
Then disappear as quickly as they came.
