Incremental Poetry ~ 38 Lines

Together in the Distance

a
gentle
hum
somewhere
interrupts
the still-
ness
of a
lonely night,
and threatens to
distract me
from my
thoughts
of you.
oh, but they
cannot
be
discharged
so
soon,
for you
and
I are
one spirit,
apart
for
a time,
but closer
together now
than ever
before—
the
distance
accomplished
the deed
when
nearness
failed.

Welcome to my series, Incremental Poetry, where each week the featured poem will be one line longer than the one I share the week before. I have no idea how long I’ll keep this up, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Thank you for stopping by.

Unrhymed
Words may be split into syllables to fit the pattern.
This form seems to evoke a soothing cadence as the lines gently increase and decrease, so it is suggested that the topic also be soothing.

I doubled it to form a verse with 38 lines.
